Thank you for registering your child(ren) for the Heart Screening at Newport High School on October 12.
A confirmation email has been sent to the email address you provided during your registration.  Please check your spam/clutter folders if you don't see this in your Inbox.

Every participant being screened must complete the Consent and Waiver Form and the two-page Medical History Form from the Participant Packet.

Click here to download or print packet.

If a participant is under 18 years of age, the consent form signed by a parent in advance will be accepted. Parents/guardians are not required but are encouraged to attend the Heart Screening.

We are grateful to UPMC for providing the medical staffing for this Heart Screening, and to Newport High School for hosting this event.  We have a huge team of medical professionals and additional volunteers who work together to make this event possible for you and your children!

Location:  Newport High School, 500 Caroline Street, Newport, PA 17074.  Enter through main doors.

Parking:  You may park in the lot across from the school.

Appointments:  The screening begins at 9:00 and ends at 3:00.

If you need to cancel, please let us know so that we can make your appointment time available for another child.  We are providing a valuable service and want to be sure we screen as many children as we can.  Send an email to renee@peytonwalker.org to cancel or change your appointment.

What to Expect & What to Wear:  This event has two components - screening and education.  We recommend that girls wear a sports bra (or similar) for the EKG (electrocardiogram) testing.  We do provide private booths for the EKG testing.

The screening process should take about 45-60 minutes as your child visits our four stations:
  • He/she will receive a vitals check including blood pressure, height and weight.
  • He/she will receive an EKG (electrocardiogram) exam.
  • He/she will be evaluated at the heart sounds/murmur station.
  • About 10% of the students will receive an echocardiogram based on their family history or something of interest on the EKG.  Should your child need an Echo, you may need to stay an extra 45-60 minutes. This test is also provided at no cost to you.

We have cardiologists and physicians from UPMC on site to review all of this information.  Before you leave the screening, we will inform you of the findings. You will receive a copy of your child’s EKG and medical summary on site.  Please share this information with your primary care physician.

The educational component occurs while you are waiting for your results. Your child will learn about CPR and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) devices. Knowledge of these tools is critical to save the life of someone in cardiac arrest. Please encourage your child(ren) to participate – and feel free to join in on the training as well.  You never know when YOU may need to jump in and save someone’s life.

Cost:  This screening is free for your child. It has been funded by the generosity of others who came before you. You will be able to make a donation at the conclusion of the screening, if you desire. You can always donate online too.

About The Peyton Walker Foundation:  The Peyton Walker Foundation grew out of the pain of losing 19-year old Peyton to Sudden Cardiac Arrest in 2013.  Peyton was a student at King’s College in the Physician Assistant program when sudden cardiac arrest stole her young, vibrant life in November of 2013.  The Foundation works tirelessly to ensure that “the beat will go on” for other young people with undetected heart issues, saving other families from the heartache that we now live with every day.

We look forward to meeting you and your child(ren) on October 12!
